Chen Institute Launches AI Talent Initiative to Find Global Leaders  in “AI for Science”

The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute has unveiled its AI Talent Initiative, an ambitious program aimed at finding and fostering future leaders in AI-driven scientific research. This initiative offers a unique platform for aspiring talent to push the boundaries of research, collaborating with some of the world’s top scientists to advance the deep integration of AI within the scientific field. Participants will have a unique opportunity to become pioneers in the emerging “AI for Science” field.

1. Unlocking the Secrets of AI Memory: Collaborative Internship Program with Mengdi Wang, a Princeton University Professor

Professor Mengdi Wang is Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning and Associated Faculty in Computer Science, She is also Affiliated Faculty to Omenn-Darling Institute of Bioengineering at Princeton University, and a recipient of the Donald Eckman Award which recognizes outstanding achievements by young researchers in the field of control theory. Mengdi is spearheading a collaborative global internship program with TCCI which seeks exceptional students who are eager to contribute to cutting-edge research in AI and cognitive science.

Professor Wang emphasized, “Leveraging long-term memory for AI’s self-evolution and real-world problem-solving has immense potential. We seek passionate young minds to help push the frontiers of AI research.” This program is open to algorithm-focused interns specializing in large language models (LLM) and AIGC. Applicants should have a solid foundation in deep learning, strong coding skills, and familiarity with essential LLM techniques like SFT and reinforcement learning algorithms.

2. Countdown to AI Accelerated Research Prize Application: Seeking Global AI Leaders

TCCI, in partnership with Science Magazine, presents the “Chen Institute and Science Prize for AI Accelerated Research Prize” to honor young scientists who have utilized AI techniques, such as machine learning and deep learning, to address critical issues in natural sciences and physical sciences.

Applicants must submit a 1,000-word research paper detailing how they are using (or plan to use) AI to accelerate research. The deadline for submissions is December 13, 2024 and the winners will be announced in July 2025. Winners will have their essay published in Science Magazine, they’ll receive a cash prize and a five-year subscription to Science Magazine.

The Chen Institute is also recruiting passionate AI interns and full-time employees in Shanghai, Singapore, and the U.S. We are looking for individuals who bring enthusiasm, technical innovation, and strong teamwork to tackle real-world challenges with AI.

    Backend Development and Integration:
  • Develop and maintain backend systems for AI models
  • Integrate machine learning models to solve business challenges like recommendation systems and predictive analytics
  • Optimize backend systems for performance
  • Design APIs and microservices for accessing AI functionalities

    Algorithm Research and Development:
  • Explore advancements in large language models and monitor the latest developments from academic publications and open-source projects
